Saturday Academy and After School Activities

Dear Parents of Guidance Academy Students,

First of all, I would like to thank you for your interest in attending our academy.

I am pleased to inform you that The Guidance Academy of STEM will provide classes on the first and third Saturdays of each month effective December, running until the end of May. The venue is the Family Development and Learning Center, located at 299 Paseo in Kansas City, MO. Class size is limited, so please let me know as soon as possible if you are interested in coming to our Saturday Academy.

Saturdays from 10:45 am to 2.30 pm:

1. Video Game Design: Students gain experience, life and job skills with a virtual internship in video game design. They are immersed in critical thinking and the design process, and will learn about computer programming, graphics, sounds, story writing and game design. Students will work at their own pace as they utilize text, pictures, animations, and digital videos to create their own 3D video games.
   
   
2. Artificial Intelligence and Mobile Robotics: Students will create robots by exploring the natural world to uncover the many insect and mammal behaviors which provide useful applications in modern technology. This is an exciting field of study which helps students to gain life and job skills as they use the latest in innovative educational software to allow them to experience a virtual internship in robotics.

Students will find a new level of success with our innovative Career Simulation approach. We believe that a little competition is a good thing. Therefore, I plan to prepare teams for competition in the National Search and Rescue Robot Challenge and Conference and the Future Game Design Challenge and Conference. Both of these events will allow our students to meet people from industry, learn about jobs, and compete with students from around the country with similar interests.

At the Guidance Academy students find their own pace for learning. Not only will we offer opportunities for students to learn cutting edge technologies, but educators will be available to help tutor students with core classes (Math, Language, Science). After completing all the homework and assignments, we will proceed with our highly engaging, challenging and fun approach to learning.
